SEATTLE (AP) - A Seattle radio station denies it fired a talk show host for criticizing Dan Rather's handling of disputed memos concerning President Bush's National Guard service.

C-B-S radio affiliate K-I-R-O A-M says it canceled "The Brian Maloney Show" because of scheduling conflicts involving broadcasts of Seattle Seahawks football games.

The station's general manager says Maloney's time slot "would be better filled by other hosts."

Maloney says he was fired Friday for telling listeners that "Rather should either retire or be forced out" over the memo controversy.

Rather cited memos purportedly written by Bush's squadron commander in a "60 Minutes Two" segment.

Many are challenging the authenticity of the memos.
